Founded by Farmers
At SoilEssentials, our story begins with the land - and the people who know it best.
Founded in the Year 2000 by three forward-thinking farmers, Jim Wilson, Robert Ramsay and Roy Watson, SoilEssentials was born out of a shared vision: to bring precision, clarity, and smarter decision-making to agriculture through the power of technology.
The secret’s in the soil
Drawing on generations of farming experience, the trio recognised that the future of agriculture lay in better understanding what’s happening beneath the surface.
A simple question — why do some areas of the field produce better yields than others?
From that insight came the name SoilEssentials, and a mission to support farmers with the tools they need to manage their land more efficiently, sustainably, and profitably
Precision farming pioneers
What began as a small team working out of the East of Scotland has grown into a nationally recognised leader in precision farming.
From soil sampling and mapping, GPS guidance and steering systems, variable rate applications, remote sensing, software development, the introduction of autonomous AgBots and AI in our spot spraying technology, we’ve helped drive the digital transformation of agriculture over the last 25 years.

We’ve developed our own innovative products and services — including the multi-award-winning SKAi spot-spraying technology and played a key role in major research collaborations and agritech initiatives across the UK and Europe.
Yet we’ve never lost sight of our roots: practical, farmer-focused solutions backed by a deep understanding of the land.

Jim Wilson remains at the helm as Managing Director today, alongside Hardware Director, Graham Ralston, continuing to guide the company with the same passion and purpose that sparked its creation.
With a dedicated team behind him across machine control, agronomy services and software development - and a loyal customer base built on trust and results, SoilEssentials is proud to be shaping the future of farming.
